Letters to a Young Manager

Landing at the wrong airport, #574
LTYM >

Please note that this letter is in-process; the following are my notes

Dear Sophie,
***
Story from CCIT in UK, Gartner analyst who said,

“Many IT organizations have great landings, but at the wrong airport.”
--Dave Aron, VP of Research, Gartner Group, CCitDG Conference, October 8, 2009

Speaks to the need for strategy to be clear about the destination.

Also the tendency to focus on IT budget versus investment (NetHope's Chairman's Report, March, 2010)
So what type of IT are we going to be?
Are we going to be about only saving costs or reach twice the poor?
That fundamentally is the key, the hinge on which NGO IT strategy turns.
***
Sincerely yours,
Ed
