Letters to a Young Manager

Landing the Ship, #320
LTYM >

Please note that this letter is in-process; the following are my notes

***
Renee's story - I told him about a staff who had worked for me for years and when he retired he gave me a cheese board that he had seen and thought of me, it said "don't tell me how rocky the shore is, tell me how you will land the ship".

Bill had lots of explanations and I told him they were immaterial, there is not right or wrong. His job is to support governance and translate board policy to action in support of the mission. Oh and I reiterated everyone wants a positive outcome.

Reminds me of the old office poster "when you are up to your ass in alligators, it's hard to remember that the goal was to drain the swamp."
