Letters to a Young Manager

The Fish Fountain, #476
LTYM >

Please note that this letter is in-process; the following are my notes

Dear Adam,
***
I sent this photo to my five-year-old granddaughter, Anna, and asked, "Do you think these fish are shooting flies ?
My daughter wrote back with Anna's reply, "No, Grandpa, I think they are shooting water."
(Said so seriously and I am trying to contain the laughter)
Sometimes imagination-if is erased but the literally true.

8/12/18 Anna and the Fountain
Off the Diag, in Ingalls Mall, across from the Michigan League is a fountain I love.  It is a sculpture of Triton, his sons and a host of spouting fish, called "Sunday Morning in Deep Waters" [1].  Last year, before the fountain was carted away for a cleaning,  I sent a photo to my youngest granddaughter, who shares a love of insects with her sisters, and has a vivid imagination and sense of story as many six year-olds do.  I asked her via a note to my daughter, "What do you imagine the fish are shooting?"  Without missing a beat she said --rather indignantly, I'm told-- "Grandpa, they are shooting water!"  Of course, the most obvious answer escaped me.

Sincerely yours,
Ed
