Letters to a Young Manager

Defaulting to Manager, #507
LTYM >

Please note that this letter is in-process; the following are my notes

Dear Adam,
***
When you love the research, stick with it; management roles will indeed take you from it.  That was the lesson I learned from my father: http://www.hpmd.com/hpmd/personal/LTYMstories.nsf/links/382
The other side of the coin is the economic reality.  As your salary grows in a research role, the typical organization wants to leverage that investment with greater responsibilities, and that means more team leader and management roles.  It's an interesting dilemma to manage thru.  The good news is, you have plenty of time :-)
***
Sincerely yours,
Ed
