Letters to a Young Manager

Changing your mind, #225
LTYM >

Please note that this letter is in-process; the following are my notes

***
Add story about reversing my position on the DMS project. Sometimes you need to build a new house next door and blow up the old. Why? The foundation is old world and won't support the new world house. You then need revolution and not evolution. Question now is how to chunk down a large revolution project. Build the minimum house on the strong foundation, good enough to get the CO and then blow up the old. Add the second floor bedrooms later.

Also note the bet I made on the project team's passion. Need to be careful when debating the "how" to fly cross-country, when the destination is the leaders key responsibility.

Also note the bet Vickie made on the SBSC team, reversing her position. My note to her:

I realize your support for the SBSC is a risky bet on the passion of its leaders. But your willingness to change approach did not go unnoticed and will motivate us further to succeed. This may indeed be the governance experiment that ends up setting the bar for decision-making across the organization. We will certainly learn. Thank you for your support.
