Letters to a Young Manager

The Shoe Polish Play, #546
LTYM >

Please note that this letter is in-process; the following are my notes

Dear Adam,
***
Great story of game 5 in 1969 World Series . Cleon Jones claimed he was hit on the foot by a low pitch. The umpire said no. Gil Hodges, Mets manager walked out with the ball and showed the ump a scuff mark. The ump reversed his decision and Jones Wales to first. It was pretty weak evidence as others have treated years afterwards. But it was Hodges character and calm demeanor that was the veracity of the objection. Evidence, character and calm confidence win the day. The Mets went on to win the series.
