Us the story of getting my eyes checking. Distance vision got better, but reading needed more focus.
Here's my 2012 forecast. Come January 2017, 5 years later, how well did I do? What are the current trends I see?
"The Future of Technology in the Social Sector", Get Informed & Get Involved Conference, Geneva University, December 3, 2012
The Seven Trends:
- First, we will need to reach people where they are, with information they are seeking and with means of communication with which they are familiar. We need to “think” including a proactive mobile ICT strategy in development programs.
- Second, the vulnerable will be information partners rather than recipients. We need to “think” inviting citizens to join our information networks.
- Third, survivors and vulnerable citizens will mobilize into connected advocacy groups faster and with more impact to make their needs known. We need to “think” advocating with beneficiaries and joining their information networks
- Fourth, the vulnerable will look to procure from us rather than us for them. We need to “think” inviting survivors into our supply chain as partners.
- Fifth, Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D) are playing a growing role in NGOs as a means for delivering programs far beyond internal information about programs. We need to “think” paying attention and partnering with those who bring early innovations.
- Sixth, technology corporations will be asking us to join and support their development efforts. We need to “think” partnering side-by-side with corporations in the delivery of programs.
- Seventh, citizens from the developed world will increasingly connect and partner directly with vulnerable citizens in the emerging world. We need to “think” partnering with nontraditional innovators who delivery assistance in more direct and connected ways.
