Letters to a Young Manager

Key Legal Question: What's the Goal?, #548
LTYM >

Please note that this letter is in-process; the following are my notes

Dear Adam,
***
Dialog with John about finalizing the IEEE article

I remember a conversation with the chief counsel at one the international nonprofits where I worked.  He was revising a large IT project contract ad nauseum, presumably with the goal of reducing the risks to as close to zero as he could get it.  After numerous back-and-forths with the legal teams on both sides, I pulled him aside and asked, :"Is the goal of this exercise to get the deal done or not?"  He backed off and we got the project done.  The lesson learned for me was that we needed to have the prudent conversation about risks, but we also needed to move forward.  I have that sense of the balance of the paper on which we are collaborating.
***
Sincerely yours,
Ed
