I believe I introduced these two question by talking first about the two sides of effectiveness: (a) that which is efficient and (b) that which adds value. Or “doing the right things (effective) and doing things right (efficient).” See http://www.diffen.com/difference/Effectiveness_vs_Efficiency

In my notes, I wrote: Effectiveness as the via negativa and via postiva: helping to manage the economics of the business (costs) and the value-add to the business. If it's just about costs, you don't have an effective digital business.
